No. PDF.js processes everything locally in your browser. Your invoice data never leaves your device and is never sent to any server. You can even use this tool offline once the page has loaded.
What is MTD ITSA and why does it matter?▼
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD ITSA) requires self-employed people and landlords earning above £50,000 to keep digital records and send quarterly updates to HMRC. Quarterly updates go through HMRC-recognised software — a spreadsheet is fine as your record-keeping as long as it feeds that software digitally (a CSV import counts). This tool gets your invoices into that shape in minutes.
Is this HMRC-recognised software?▼
No — and we won’t pretend it is. This tool keeps the digital records MTD asks for and exports them in a clean CSV you import into your HMRC-recognised software for submission. Several recognised submitters are free or cheap for 2026/27 (from around £36/year, some free this year). We list the options in our guide.
Will this work on scanned or image-based PDFs?▼
This tool works best on text-layer PDFs — i.e. PDFs generated by software such as Xero, FreeAgent, QuickBooks, Invoice Ninja, or sent by email from suppliers. Scanned images embedded in PDFs require OCR which this tool does not perform. Most emailed invoices are text-layer PDFs and work well.
How accurate is the extraction?▼
Accuracy depends on invoice layout consistency. Standard UK invoice formats from major software extract with high accuracy. The confidence indicator in the results table flags uncertain extractions. Always review extracted data before including it in official tax records.
